How a Polished Diamond Gets Polished

From http://cushion-cut-engagement-rings.com. You can easily see a lot of Gemstones set in certain Jewelry settings and you can also see how they sparkle and shine in these different pieces. How they get that shine and sparkle can actually be done in a few ways and these ways may depend on which gem is being polished.

Tumble Polish

One particularly popular way that a lot of Gemstone vendors, cutters and Jewelry manufacturers and sellers use when they want to have a polished Diamond is to tumble polish it. When you talk about tumble polish, you are likely to imagine a Gemstone being tumbled around in a certain container till it becomes shiny and radiant. This is a pretty accurate description for tumble polish since a polished Gemstone does get its smooth and polished look from a tumble polish. This is done with the Gemstone being tumbled around in a container with certain polishing abrasives included in the container to give it the polish and shine it needs. This concept is actually taken from nature where the water and the sand polishes the stones in the sea into smooth shiny pebbles. This kind of a Diamond polishing system copies what nature does in a few centuries and gets gems and other stones polished in a shorter span of a month to six weeks.

Sanding Machine

There are also certain Diamonds that can be polished other ways. While the tumble polish method is probably one of the more popular methods you can use when polishing Diamonds, you can actually use another method that uses a grinding stone or a typical sanding machine that uses a different kind of sandpaper made specifically for this purpose. This kind of a technique to get a polished Diamond requires a lot of patience, a steady hand and a keen eye for detail since a slight mistake can ruin the luster and sparkle of a gem you are polishing or handling. While this is usually used to finish off some gems that have been tumble polished, this kind of a technique can be used on its own after each individual gem has been cut and shaped.

When you are aiming to create a polished Diamond from scratch, you can actually learn it on your own or have somebody do it for you. With these techniques you can have a beautifully polished Diamond ready for placement in the Jewelry setting that you desire.
